Cody Football: Preview, Pre-Season Rankings and more

Friday night lights return to the Cowboy State this Friday as high school football teams will put on the pads for opening week. While many teams will play a standard game, others will take part in a scrimmage. Either way, high school football returns this Friday.

Today, I am going to take a look at the Cody Bronc Football team and where they rank in the Wyopreps Preseason Coaches and Media Football Poll as well as where Wyoming-Football.com predicts them to finish the season.

Cody enters the season coming off a runner-up finish a year ago, losing to Star Valley 14-7 in the 2022 State Championship game, snapping a 26-game win streak.

The Broncs enter 2023 the No. 2 ranked team in the Wyopreps preseason poll, in Class 3A. Star Valley enters the season ranked No. 1, they are the defending State Champs. The rest of Class 3A is rounded out by Douglas at No. 3, Cody’s Park County Rivals are No.4 with Buffalo No. 5.

In Class 4A, 2-time defending State Champs, Sheridan, open as No. 2. Cheyenne East is No. 1. They are followed by Natrona County, Thunder Basin and Cheyenne Central at 3-5.

In Class 2A, it’s Lyman on top. Big Horn, the defending State Champs are No. 2. Mountain View is three. Big Horn Basin’s Lovell is No. 4 with Tongue River five.

In 1A 9-man, Pine Bluffs sits on top. Big Piney is second with Wind River third. Southeast and Lingle Fort-Laramie are four and five.

And in 6-man, it’s Little Snake River No. 1. Dubois is 2nd with the Burlington Huskies 3rd. Encampment is fourth with Kaycee 5th.

How does all that compare to the Class 3A Season Preview from Wyoming-Football.com?

First of all can anyone upset the two power houses, Cody and Star Valley? Those two programs have combined to win the last nine State Championships, Star Valley five times and Cody four.

Who are the other contenders? You look at teams like Douglas, Buffalo and Powell as the strongest contenders to slay the giants.

Wyoming-Football.com has Star Valley edging out Douglas for the 2023 State Title.

If you ask me, the Broncs are going to be a lot better than many think. While the Broncs lost the likes of Luke Talich, Jack Schroeder, Remy Broussard, Matt Nelson among others, Cody has more than enough to get the job done.

Maddax Ball takes over the reigns of the quarterback position and saw crucial playing time a year ago, started the State Championship.

While Wyoming-Football.com doesn’t list any Cody players as names to watch, the Broncs might like that. Head Coach Matt McFadden likes it when they go under the radar.

No doubt about it, I believe the Broncs will be playing for the State Title in 2023, mark it down.
